Habs Ink Lane Huston Contract
Huston has played for the Boston University Terriers the last two seasons after spending time with the United States National Development Team program. The Holland, Mich. native scored 15 goals in both his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Terriers. He helped BU reach the Frozen Four in the 2023-24 season. Boston University fell to Denver University in overtime.
The 20-year-old was drafted by the Canadiens in the second, round 62nd overall of the 2022 NHL Draft. Huston put up nearly 50 points in his two collegiate seasons with Boston. He was named Hockey East rookie of the year in 2023 and picked up a number of other honours from the conference.
Huston has also played for Team USA on the international level. He helped the Americans win the gold medal at the most recent 2024 IIHF World Junior tournament. The young defenceman registered six assists for Team USA. He also helped the United States earn a bronze medal in the 2023 event.
What it Means
The Canadiens add another young weapon to their arsenal. Montreal has done fairly well in recent seasons in drafting talented players from the NCAA ranks. Cole Caufield is blossoming into a star player and there’s hope Huston can do the same.
There are questions about Hutson’s size with him being 5-feet, 10-inches tall and 162 pounds. However, he has dynamic skating ability and can move the puck very well. Huston is able to change directions quickly and has exceptional edgework.
Montreal has some good building blocks to finally make a push back up the standings in the Atlantic Division. Many Habs fans are hoping that Hutson can be another piece that go towards finishing the puzzle.
